If you to ask most people, "What is preventing you from going back to college?" What might their responses be? For most, a big reason might be family commitments. Perhaps they have young children at home to care for. Or they may have elderly parents who need looking after. Or you might tell me that you have financial responsibilities that require you to hold down a full-time job. This is a big obstacle for many. I know, it's the same for me: every month those bills come due! And so, like most of us I guess, you simply cannot AFFORD to take time off from your present position - let alone quit! - to enroll and attend college. You're probably thinking that leaves you between a rock and a hard place: you need to work - but you also need to get a better job for the better life that it would bring you and your family. But don't you see it? That better life will not ever become a reality if you don't have that diploma to hang on the wall. So what can you do? Attending daily classes on a traditional campus simply will not work for you. And that's where online college degree programs come in. When you enroll in an online college degree program your entire educational experience takes place through your PC. You will view (and can even participate in) your class lectures via the Internet. Need to communicate with your professor or classmates? You can exchange e-mails, or participate in chat rooms, exchanging information, asking questions - even collaborating with students on group assignments. You will, of course, have to do some offline reading and other work, but most of it is handled via online communications. I know your next question: "Are these schools for real?" And the short answer is yes. And the reputable schools are always accredited. This will protect you from the scammers out there. You will be able to transfer your credits to another school, and future employers will recognize the validity of your degree as long as you go to an accredited school. So what kinds of degree programs are available? What kinds of courses of study can you choose from? Just take your pick. Have an eye for business? Then you can major in Accounting, Management, Human Resources, Economics. Perhaps you are a techie? Then you can enroll in certified IT and programming courses. And here's some good news: the same kinds of financial aid that would be available to those attending a traditional campus (such as various types of student loans) are available to you as well. As long as your school and program of study are properly accredited, you will have financial aid options. So, supposing you've heard enough - how do you begin? Well, the best place to begin is to search for information on online college degrees ONLINE. Locate some schools offering degrees and courses in your area of interest. Note what degrees they award. Make sure that they are properly accredited. Compare the costs - both tuition as well as administrative fees. Here's a good tip: ask someone already active in your planned field of study for their opinion: would THEY attend this school? Then when you have narrowed down your choices to 3 or 4 schools, contact them individually to indicate your interest. Ask any questions you may have. When you are ready, make your choice. Congratulations -- and welcome to the world of higher education!
