Edward Morin dolphin426@gmail.com New Solar City For Florida! Going Green! That is the new wave in the political arena. The government has sent out the message to the American people to save energy and the people in power have looked hard at ways to make that free energy keep the money flowing to their pockets. Building a new city in south Florida is one way that solar power could make a big impact on the nation. It will be a new energy efficient place to live and work. What work? That is the big question. After the city is built then what do people do? There always has to be a reason for a place to exist. This is overlooked as always in the plans of many developments. Will there be manufacturing or some other type of industry? What will sustain the city after it is built and running on solar power. There will be a need for services and that will sustain some of the economy but what of the rest of the people whom came to build the city in the first place. This type of rise and fall has already happened so many times and we have so many empty buildings and homes in Florida now that could be fixed up and used that the need for a new city should questioned. Could not the same amount of jobs be created just picking out developments that have gone into foreclosure and turning them into "solar neighborhoods"? There are many areas in Florida that could become solar communities. Palm Coast is growing and is a wonderful place but has a high number of homes that could be bought by wealthy investors and made "solar". These homes could send power back to the power company even if nobody lived in them! If solar panels become cheaper in the future then putting them onto every available roof and sending the power back to the grid will be necessary. Making solar panels in the USA is a great new industry. In Florida, we have 222 days a year of sunshine that we could be turned into energy. Investors that worked with the power companies could buy up those foreclosed homes all over the state, remodel them with solar power, and have them paying for themselves in just a few years time. Putting people back to work and saving energy in a place where we already have enough housing and buildings. That is what the Going Green should mean! We should be making all of our own solar panels and systems here in the USA! Made in the USA is something that we have to start up again. It is not just building a house. We have houses. We need industry. Green industry. Nuclear power is being talked about as a new "safe" source of energy. The problems with nuclear power are many and the problems with solar power are few. Nuclear power presents the dangers that could affect the whole country but line the pockets of many in power. Solar energy installed on every-ones home could provide not only power on an individual basis but continuous maintaining work for many. Generating extra power daily and sending it back into the grid would generate jobs for the electric companies in power management. Many systems would not be able to be powered completely by solar for years to come. It will be generations from now before the world is free from total dependence on oil and gas and the other things that we know are bad for the earth. We need power but we have the technology to get green power. If the government is allowed to promote the development of nuclear power instead of solar power, the danger presented to your children will be even greater than it is to all of us today. Although the power made by these plants is enormous, the danger is also. Can we become a nation that takes care of itself? "Made in the USA". We have the" know how", and we need to use it. Do we use it to build a new city that we really do not need or do we use that money and know how to fix what we have? Can we grow our own food? We all know someone who is in a financial jam. This is when saving money, and going green makes sense. Building Nuclear power plants or plants that produce solar power panels for the roof tops of all the homes in the south. Which would you rather have in your backyard? Can you grow your tomato plants under a nuclear reactor? I’d rather not! The sun will send us all the "power" we need for free. Our children can be electricians. There is always wind along the coast and hydroelectric power. Now is the time to put the country back to work repairing what we have. If we do build something new then let it be safe for our children. Let us become a nation that loves to say "Safely made in the USA".
