Whether you're just beginning to learn about the ins and outs of caring for your face or you are intimately familiar with everything you can use to make your skin look its very glowing best, one thing that you should have a good working knowledge of is exfoliation. Essentially, exfoliating is the process where dead skin is removed from the surface of your skin. When the dull dead skin is removed, your skin will achieve a healthy glow. Along with the instant gratification of smoother and softer skin derived from exfoliation, there are other benefits to be had. Many times a bothersome skin condition will go away after following a consistent skincare program including an exfoliating product or technique. And of course, exfoliation provides the obvious anti-aging benefits we're all after. An interesting fact to note is that skin is exfoliated naturally on every part of the body. However, often this natural process is hindered by various skin conditions and problems that many of us face. For instance, if your skin tends to be oily, this can make natural exfoliation more difficult as the dead skin will stick to the oil. With aging skin, the process can also be a bit slower than you might prefer. When determining whether to include skin exfoliation in your skincare regimen, consider the overall condition of your skin. In general, nearly everyone can benefit by getting rid of those dead and dull skin cells on a periodic basis. Of course care should be taken if your skin is sensitive or there are extreme issues. One option that you can select is to try manual exfoliation, where you use a product along with a soft washcloth or something like an exfoliating mask to cleanse your skin. While this has the benefit of immediate results, you might want to chemically exfoliate skin, a process which has less risk of irritating the delicate skin of your face. Chemical exfoliants are widely available both over the counter and through your dermatologist. They come in gel, cream or serum form and should be used on clean skin. Some of the most popular exfoliation products include alpha hydroxy acids, or AHA's. AHA's are derived from fruits and like the manual solutions, work to remove dead skin cells from the skin. You can find several varieties and brands on the market and most provide excellent benefits to your skin. Consider exfoliation if you're looking for a way to brighten dull skin and achieve a younger look. Your face will benefit from the fantastic anti-aging benefits of smoother skin and you'll be taking an important step toward maintaining your skin's health.
