Did you know that one of the most active ingredients in the best anti-aging skin care products are antioxidants? It is true, although we may have considered that anti-oxidants are an important dietary supplement, used to slowing down the process of aging, while keeping our appearance healthy and youthful. Idebenone is one of the most potent of the six leading antioxidants, although such sources as green tea extracts that contain catechin polyphenols and a form of fat-soluble Vitamin C called Ascorbyl Palmitate are used often when manufacturing the very best anti-aging serums and creams. From the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, in a study done by a group of researchers who developed the first ever protocol to compare the efficacy of antioxidants on their effects on preventing free-radical skin-damage, Idebenone received a score of 95 out of a 100, which was the highest score among the six leading antioxidants. Idebenone is a synthetic analogue of a naturally-occurring enzyme called Coenzyme Q10 (Co Q10). Co Q10 is an important antioxidant component of the lipid (fatty) membranes that surround all cells, as well as the lipid membranes surrounding the various organelles ("little organs"), such as mitochondria and microsomes, inside cells. It is cell energizer, which means it produces the required energy for cell reproduction. Idebenone differs from Co Q10 in one area. Co Q10 can shift from an anti-oxidizing process to an auto-oxidizing one while in a low oxygen or hypoxic state. This produces free radicals rapidly leading to body tissue damage which results to aging. In clinical studies, Idebenone has been proven to fight free radical damage to body tissues by relatively maintaining the ATP levels of normal cell development. We must read about mitochondrial processes in cells, to understand the way in which anti-aging benefits are provided by Idebenone. Ninety percent of all ATP bioenergy is produced by the mitochondrial cells. These contain the richest sites of Co Q10 or Idebenone. Mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA allocates the reproduction of mitochondria themselves. Over the course of a lifetime our mtDNA becomes ever more damaged, and the mitochondria produced become ever more ineffective in their energy generation. The cells that are most susceptible to mitochondrial energy depletion with advancing age are the brain, skeletal muscle and heart muscle cells. As a result our cells die and various diseases develop in our advanced years. Therefore the benefits of Idebenone, offers the result of anti-aging in several different ways. Idebenone serves as influential in reducing the free radicals of mitochondrial, while curbing the damage that occurs with aging and the increasing of mtDNA, dissimilar to Co Q10, while under conditions of low oxygen that can possibly occur throughout a lifetime. What this means is, Idebenone works much better than Co Q10, under hypoxic conditions within the chain of electron transport in keeping up the production of high energy.
