A New Acne Treatment

By: Ewen Stazinsky

Imagine having to cancel an important appointment or much awaited social gathering or party because you have developed pimples, blackheads or whiteheads on your face?

It's this problem alone that causes people in the USA alone to spend over $ 1.4 billion every year to treat acne. Though many treatments yield unsatisfactory results, a few of them have even yielded bad side effects. What is even worse is their conditions.

Acne can be treated by either taking prescribed medicines or by trying out non-prescription acne treatment products, like acne cleansers, astringents, moisturizers and pimple creams available at their local drug store.

No matter which acne treatment you decide to use, the fact is that prescription and non-prescription products remain pretty much the same. Each one either helps you unplug your whiteheads and blackheads, help your affected skin shed so you end up with a fresh new look or else they kill the bacteria that infect the pores.

Almost all acne treatments usually take from between six to eight weeks to work, but can take months to work in severe cases.

If your decision is to see a dermatologist, he or she will more than likely suggest that you to take antibiotics, other types of pills, vitamins or all of these, depending on what is necessary for your treatment.

Though the topical antibiotics, like Cleocin T and Azelex help to kill bacteria, they may result in dry, red skin with an increase in sun sensitivity. Oral antibiotics can cause even more serious side effects, like nausea and dizziness.

Another popular method for treating acne is consuming Vitamin A. The derivatives like Retin-A, Differin and Tarzorac prevent skin cells from clumping together and shedding, but they may also cause dryness, redness and irritation.

It is because of these numerous side effects that many dermatologists lean toward the use of a fairly new acne treatment, which works by employing light at wavelengths between 405 to 420 nm. If you are interested in this treatment, you should know it will take 8 sittings of 15 minutes each, distributed over a 4 weeks period. This acne treatment has been found to give quick and impressive results when used to treat mild to moderate inflammation acne.
